Theatre Workshop at Vithura
|
An unusual weekend in an unusual setting. For the 29 children learning German at the Zentrum, it was a completely unusual experience with their counterparts in Vithura, which is hardly 40 km away from Trivandrum; still, completely different in specific means. Organized by the local "Suhruth Nataka Kalari" (Friends Theatre Group), the two-day drama workshop in natural settings near a canal surrounded by lush greenery, presented to the city-kids a wealth of unknown talents hidden in their minds and bodies. Braving the hot days on that weekend, the children enjoyed the camp to the fullest and jointly presented a small piece of drama strung together from whatever they had learned over the two days from the camp director Shri. Sudhakaran. The objective of the Goethe-Zentrum through such activities is to remove the gaps between the city-based and village-based children, bring them together and assist them to work as a team to nurture their artistic talents to produce a completely different theatrical experience. The children from Vithura will soon be invited to visit the Zentrum and continue the practice sessions with our children. The goal is to set-up a combined theatre group, which would later work with a children's group from Germany.
